European Dream City
24-28 September 2010, Helsinki, Finland

What is it?

European Dream City is an international workshop, scheduled in 24-28 September 2010. The workshop is a part the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme Grundtvig and organised by The Green Cultural and Educational Centre (ViSiO) together with The Helsinki Greens (HeVi). The main purpose of the workshop is to promote local grass root level of discussion about sustainable urban living. The broader purpose is to raise public awareness concerning happier and more sustainable urban life now and in the future.

The workshop takes place in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, which as a rapidly growing area, is facing similar challenges concerning sustainability as other European metropolitans. The agenda of the workshop
is formed by presentations, discussion and study visits. The topics cover issues such as traffic, living, accessibility, energy etc., not forgetting the grass root level activity within all this. The special interests of the participants are taken into account while building the agenda. The most important is that the participants can share their ambitions, ideas and experiences concerning sustainable urban planning. The purpose is to form a network of activists who will stay in contact with each other also after the workshop. So, besides of their own contribution, everybody will get a bag of new ideas and contacts to bring back home!

The working methods of the workshop highlight discussion and dialogue between the participants and the experts of the field.  During the workshop, the participants will also create a collage of "European Dream City", which will be presented to wider audience through the exhibition organised in the end of the workshop. The outcomes of the seminar are also collected to this website. The language of the workshop is English.
